Preventative Health Check: Your MOT for Your Inside Values
True health often begins right where you can't feel a thing yet! While you might feel perfectly fit in your day-to-day life, minor risks to your heart, circulation or metabolism can sometimes develop quietly in the background. In Austria, everyone aged 18 and over is entitled to a free annual health check. The wonderful aim of this is to prevent illnesses from developing in the first place, rather than just treating them once they appear.
This isn't about acute symptoms, but rather a lovely stocktake of your vital signs. We'll take a close look at how your organs, your blood sugar metabolism and your cardiovascular system are doing, helping you to stay healthy, energetic and thriving for a long time to come!
Why Preventative Care Is So Important
Your health check is brilliant and absolutely key for the early detection of:
Cardiovascular diseases, by checking your blood pressure and cholesterol levels
Metabolic checks, for the early detection of diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes)
Cancer screening, through targeted smears (for women), stool tests or referrals for a colonoscopy
Liver health, by checking important blood values (such as Gamma-GT)
Lung and heart function, through listening to your chest and a clinical assessment
Skin and sensory organs, to spot any unusual changes or age-related limitations
Lifestyle advice, on friendly topics like nutrition, exercise or nicotine consumption
What to Expect During Your Check-up
To make sure we have plenty of time for a precise and thorough analysis, your screening always consists of two separate appointments:
1st Appointment (Lab Work): You'll pop in to see us in the morning on an empty stomach. We'll take a small blood sample and you'll provide a urine sample (and from age 50, a quick stool sample too). This usually takes just a few minutes.
2nd Appointment (Discussion & Examination): As soon as your lab results are back, it's time for the main event! We will discuss your results in detail, carry out your physical examination (listening to your heart/lungs, physical palpation, etc.) and give you comprehensive advice on your overall health status.
What You'll Take Away From It
Brilliant benefits such as:
Complete clarity on your current state of health thanks to precise lab results
Early detection of potential risks that you might not have noticed for years
Personalised advice on how you can make your daily life even healthier and happier
Peace of mind that you are keeping up to date with important screening intervals (like mammograms or bowel cancer screenings)
Handy Quick Tips
Here's how we can make the absolute best use of our time together:
Please fast for your first appointment: To get accurate blood readings, please don't eat anything and drink only water for about 12 hours beforehand.
Come prepared: Bring along your vaccination card and a handy list of any medications you take regularly.
Jot down your questions: Write down any questions about your well-being beforehand, so we can chat through them together during your second appointment.
Your Next Step
Just pop by and see us!
Preventative care is a wonderful privilege that is available completely free of charge to everyone in Austria (including those without health insurance). Please don't wait for symptoms to appear—give yourself total peace of mind instead. Just give us a call to book your two appointments for your next health check, and we'll take care of the rest!

What should you take with you?
To help us give you the best and quickest care possible, please bring the following items with you: **Your e-card**: This is the most important thing for billing purposes. **Your vaccination record**: Particularly important for check-ups or vaccination consultations. **Current medical reports & medication list**: This gives us a complete and immediate overview of your health. **Good spirits**: We will bring ours too – it’s always the best way to work together! **An important note for EU patients**: If you are not insured in Austria, please remember to bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Please check that the 16-digit code on the back is clearly legible. **A small request**: Even though we do our best to accommodate spontaneous requests, please arrive at reception 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment (or planned visit). This gives us plenty of time to get you registered, so you can start your treatment feeling completely relaxed.
